Biography

Deirdre (Dee) Woods is a powerhouse in the UK and global food sovereignty movement: a multi-award-winning community cook, food grower, researcher, policy advocate and co-founder of Granville Community Kitchen in London. Her work braids Afroecology, race, gender and sovereignty into one sustained act of love for land and people by bridging practise and policy ensuring that the voices of African and Caribbean communities are centred in food systems transformation.

Dee's influence spans from grassroots community organising to high level international policy, and she has spoken around the world on issues including the right to food, climate crisis, inequalities, household food insecurity, Afroecology and intersectionality.

With decades of experience in community organising and food justice, Dee has been instrumental in shaping the discourse around the right to food and culturally appropriate food in the UK. Dee regularly contributes to national consultations on food policy and has represented The African and Caribbean Heritage Food Network at parliamentary select committees, local authority strategy sessions, and international food sovereignty convenings.
