Project overview

Listening to the Land & ORFC took place in Oxford from 7th to 9th January 2026. The first day was Listening to the Land Day, a dedicated gathering centred on land, ceremony, agroecology, and relationships with place.

The following two days were part of the Oxford Real Farming Conference. ACHFN participated in the wider conference space, bringing African and Caribbean food sovereignty perspectives into conversations with growers, organisers, researchers, campaigners, and community practitioners.

The page brings these connected moments together because ACHFN’s participation moved across both spaces: a focused land-based gathering On 7th January, then a broader food and farming conference on 8th and 9th January. It does not describe ACHFN as leading ORFC; it records ACHFN’s contribution within that wider movement setting.

Why this mattered

  • Created space for ACHFN to take part in a land-centred gathering before the main conference began.
  • Brought African and Caribbean food heritage, land relationships, and food justice into ORFC conversations.
  • Strengthened links with people working across farming, policy, community organising, research, and movement building.
  • Helped connect local heritage food work with wider UK conversations on agroecology and land justice.

Context

The Oxford Real Farming Conference took place on 8th and 9th January 2026, bringing together people working across agroecology, farming, policy, justice, and food systems change.

Listening to the Land Day took place On 7th January 2026 as a separate but connected gathering before the conference. Listening to the Land also has a presence within ORFC, so the dates and roles are separated here for clarity.

Together, the three days placed ACHFN in both an intimate land-based space and a larger conference environment, without presenting the two as the same event.
